I never really expected 12 hours of simracing to be so much fun. I thought I’d get bored after a couple hours. Driving duties were split with a friend and it really gave me a better idea of how endurance strategies work. There’s a bunch more iRacing endurance events this year, I think the next one I’ll do is the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen in June. If anyone is interested in iRacing I’d recommend it!

This is something I’d totally do, what with how much I play GT6...I have logged nearly 40k miles but have not played it hardcore since last summer due to college. But I need to buy a PC first or build one that can do gaming well. And a steering wheel.

What’s the setup-cost for iracing licenses? I seem to remember it being buy the base game, and then tracks+cars are all DLC once you manage to rank up enough to actually be allowed to race them online?

Yeah like $10 per car and $15 per track is what I remember

It’s $12/month, although there are discounts if you sign up for longer (drops to $10/month if you sign up for 3 months, etc.). The basic subscription comes with a handful of club racing cars and tracks (Spec Miata, Street Stock, Laguna Seca, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Summit Point, and some short track ovals, as well as older cars like the COT cup car and the old Dallara IndyCar. Additional cars are $12 and tracks are usually $15, and $12 for some of the smaller ones, and there are discounts for buying in bulk and you can earn credits by racing regularly.

The big thing that separates it from things like Assetto Corsa and Project cars is the way it’s organized. It’s all online and there is a pretty strong community aspect. They have a full-time chief steward that polices races (if someone crashes you out intentionally you can protest it, and a real live person will review a replay and possibly suspend/ban the offender) and the rank-up system you mentioned is actually based on driving safely, not on speed.

Yeah i meant the driver safety rating instead of speed. It seems really nice, but monthly subscription+the cash for more tracks/cars, just sadly too much for me atm, ontop of also needing the wheel+pedals set. But thanks for the info :)
